Read the following FAQ's to find the Answers to many of your most important questions
about Learning Salsa Dancing with 'Salsa SOS'.
I've never danced, will I stand out? Will I look foolish? No, you will be
surrounded by other people, who, just like yourself, have never danced before and are at least as nervous as you are. Now
is the time to learn! Don't wait and don't put it off. Our Unique Program is designed especially to make learning Salsa
both Fun & Simple for All Beginners, no matter how many left feet they think they have.
Trust Me! You WILL "get it", as will everyone else, and yes, it is gonna change your life in ways
you can't imagine!
Which Classes should I take? Are they all the same? All the Beginner classes
& courses teach the same basic dance techniques and follow the same Program of Steps, Shines, Moves & Routines. So,
it doesn't matter which Club Venue or day/night you decide to attend, you will receive the same high standard of training. We
strongly recommend attending at least TWO classes per week for the best results.
For Improver to Advanced level 'Salseros' it is all about variety! Every class covers different material, so
you can take several classes each week and learn even more cool new moves & routines. There is still alot of
attention given to basic technique, but it is all about having FUN! Many people take multiple classes each week to reinforce
the learning process and to progress faster.
We also hold Special Monthly Workshops on the First Saturday of every month, which are more Intensive and offer more Individual Attention - Guaranteed to Speed
up your Progress!
Do I need a Partner? Absolutely not! We rotate partners in every class,
and everyone will have ample partners to dance with. If we have an imbalance, extra people just wait in between couples, and
will get a partner in a couple of minutes (we switch partners regularly during class). Although it is largely out
of our control, we do our best to ensure our classes are as evenly balanced as possible.
I'm bringing someone, do I have to rotate partners? Rotating partners is
not solely for social reasons. It is crucial to the learning process. It is very important to
properly learn how to lead and/or follow. Everyone has a different style, and changing partners will greatly enhance the speed
at which you learn. That being said, if learning with your partner is important to you, why not take private lessons
alongside the group lessons and enjoy the best of both worlds - the social & technical benefits of group
lessons plus the chance to develop unique, special moves & routines you only perform together and making you stand out
from the crowd!
What are the different Class Levels? How long does it take to progress? Beginner - for New dancers
(up to 2 to 4 months)
Improver - Progression after 2 to 4 months at Beginner
Level (your Beginner Level instructor will advise you)
Intermediate! - Progression after 6 to 12 months at Improver Level (your Improver
Level instructor will advise you)
Advanced!!! - Minimum 3 years from 'Day One'
Can I progress quicker if I want to? What do you recommend?
No Problem! To avoid students getting bored or feeling frustrated at not learning & progressing fast enough we have
developed our Unique range of Programs so that Everyone can learn & progress at their own pace. The easiest and most
obvious way to get the most out of your classes and learn more quickly is to attend more than one class per week,
in particular we recommend you attend the Monthly Workshops held on the First Saturday of every month, and you really MUST stay & dance after the classes have finished.
Simply put... the more you dance the faster you improve!
If that isn't fast enough - Book a few Individual Lessons. Your instructor will be able to help you prevent Bad Habits holding you back and quickly develop the specific skills necessary
to move up to the next level asap. And...
If that STILL isn't fast enough! - For the most 'Serious Salseros' who really want to progress quickly
we have created our amazing 'Fastrack' training programs, which can take you all the way from Beginner to Instructor level within 12 to 18 months!
Can Anyone come along? Is there an Age limit?
Our evenings are primarily set up to cater for Adults, but we will allow students as young as 13 (no younger!) to come
along and to continue to do so if they are quite grown up and are accompanied by an adult.
In our clubs we do not tollerate 'egotistical' behaviour & attitudes of so called expert dancers - everyone
is special to us, whether you are a Beginner taking your first lesson or an experienced intermediate, etc.
So, please don't come along if you already think you know it all and enjoy telling people what they are doing wrong and
belittling less experienced dancers - Do come along if you are sociable, friendly, want to have Fun & love to
dance!
Can I bring a group of people? Absolutely! If you're nervous about taking
a class on your own simply invite your friends to come along with you. They'll have a great time and you'll be able to
practice together.
How much do the classes cost? Do you offer any discounts? If you turn up on
the night, you can pay our full price (typically £7) on-the-door (cash only), but there is no guarantee of there being
space, especially in the Beginner Classes. Alternatively, you can pay in advance and save money with one of our 'Club Passes'
- You can get unlimited access to all our classes & clubs for 1 week for just £15!
Beginners, you can pay for one of our 'Beginner Programs' guaranteeing your place and saving £££s at the same time - check
out the 'BEGINNERS' page.
When you register online you are automatically confirmed and registered for the class or classes you have chosen and You'll
receive confirmation by email, and a receipt!
What should I wear to class? Any special shoes to wear? Most people come
in casual wear. Some dress up. Regardless, it's a dance class, so you should be comfortable! Look presentable and nice. You
can never look too good, right? The only solid tip is to avoid wearing sports shoes/trainers. You will be spinning, and
you need to wear shoes with a leather sole. Once you have been dancing a while you can buy proper dance shoes if you wish
- they even make 'Dance Trainers' for those who just have to wear sports shoes!
Anything else I need to know about classes or how to prepare, what to bring? Just
bring yourself, your friends, and the desire to learn and have fun. You'll have a great time! Always prepare for dance classes
by practicing good hygiene! What that means is, please shower before coming to class - and wear deodorant and antiperspirant.
Ladies - perfume, men - a touch of cologne. These little thoughtful touches go a long way. Nobody forget - bring your breath
mints.
What are Salsa Weekends? Can anyone go? Everyone should go to a Salsa Weekend
- They are Great! We highly recommend going to one of the 'Club Cubana' organised Pontins weekenders. We particularly like
& support them because they are much more suitable for Beginner & Improver level dancers, especially the event
held at Pakefield in October/November which is the only event of its size with workshops/classes for Beginners/first time
dancers.
The weekend usually consists of 3 Party Nights (Fri, Sat & Sun) till 4am (ish), usually preceded by a class and with
Cabaret & Competitions anyone can enter plus two full days of intensive workshops. An absolute MUST for anyone serious
about Learning and Enjoying Salsa!
Make sure you ask your instructor for more information!
Why learn with 'Salsa SOS'? Aren't all Salsa Clubs the same? No, all Salsa
Clubs are not the same! There are different styles of Salsa Dancing which are constantly changing and evolving
and most clubs teach THEIR favourite style plus the standard of teaching varies from Very Good to Awful... My best recommendation
would be to try all the various clubs near you and to make your own mind up.
